Episode 88: Rhian Ravenscroft Speak Up Every Time
July 16, 2020
In the midst of COVID pandemic, Vice Director of The Cyclists’ Alliance, Rhian Ravenscroft is looking to take this terrible time for the world as a moment to rethink how women’s cycling and racing is structured. We talk about the current situation at the UCI, the world governing body of cycling, the work The Cyclists’ Alliance is doing, the recent grant they received from Rapha Foundation, and general frustration about inequity in the sport she loves so much.
The Cyclists’ Alliance is the labor organization representing professional cyclists in UCI Women's World Tour events. Rhian is a corporate and commercial lawyer with 15 years’ experience. As the Vice-Director, she is in charge of working with stakeholders like the UCI, teams, and race organizers on a daily basis. Like everyone who works at The Cyclists’ Alliance she is a former racer. Rhian raced competitively from the age of 9 as a runner, triathlete, and cyclist.
Since the world is changing so fast during the pandemic, to give this conversation some context of time, we recorded in mid April 2020.
