Episode 73: Hannah Stodel Challenging Perceptions

This week, I talk with offshore sailor Hannah Stodel, who is working her way to the start line of the around the world race Vendee Globe. Hannah and I talk a lot about confidence. So, as she shares her ways of managing doubt and about all of her meticulous preparations, keep in mind what exactly she aiming to do. In the Vendee Globe, Hannah, who has only one arm, will race on a 60 foot boat all by herself for three to four months without ever stopping back on land. WHAT!. .. yikes, I know.

Hannah Stodel is three time World Champion, four time Paralympian, and British Telecom YJA Young Sailor of the Year. At the Royal Hospital School in Ipswich, Hannah raced the 29er, Laser 3000 and Laser 4.7. She went on to represent Great Britain at Youth and Junior levels in World and European championships in the Mirror and 29er Classes for the able-bodied.  Hannah was born without a lower right arm. At 15 she started competing with her eyes on the Paralympics and now she is preparing for the Vendee Globe, and incredible, extreme endurance, solo around the world race.
