Episode 130: Kim McKenney & Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt of Nordic Ski Lab
July 21, 2022
Kim McKenny is the president and co-founder of Nordic Ski Lab, an online learning platform that uses videos to teach the ski techniques used by competitive cross-country skiers. Her educational background is in biology and has a masters degree in neuroscience. Kim is a certified ski coach who uses her own experiences learning how to ski as an adult combined with expertise and demonstrations from world-class athletes to deliver affordable and easy-to-understand ski technique. What started as a passion project, born from a love of sport and a desire to see more people skiing like the pros, Nordic Ski Lab has grown into a popular site with thousands of members across the world.
Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt grew up on cross-country skis in a cross country ski family, which made choosing to pursue a career in xc ski racing a natural choice for her. Olivia now lives in Canmore, Alberta where she trains with the Alberta World Cup Academy. Olivia raced for three years on the Canadian National Ski Team (ending in 2018), then unfortunately had a period of injuries and illnesses. But she is now stronger than ever thanks to lots of rehab that we’ll hear about in the episode! With new strength and determination, she made the Canadian Olympic team for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
Olivia began working with Nordic Ski Lab in 2016 and she’s the primary demo athlete for Nordic Ski Lab and a technique consultant. Olivia self-identifies as a lifelong skinny ski enthusiast. She is incredibly passionate about the sport and passing on that passion. She works as a youth ski coach for Canmore Nordic as well as the non-profit, Spirit North, which empowers Indigenous youth in sport.
