Episode 32: Anya Alvarez The future of sports is girls

Anya is one of the strong, adventurous, superstar women I admire for everything she’s doing to promote and advance sports for women and for girls. She is a former professional golfer on the LPGA. And is now a sports journalist focusing on covering women in sports and highlighting their excellence. Her writing has been featured in various outlets including ESPN, VICE, Rolling Stone, Salon, and Playboy Magazine.

As a continuation of her mission to amplify the voices of women in sport, Anya created Major League Girls, a new venture of untold women's sports stories, focused on creating content geared towards young girls who love sports. Like she said in our conversation, "For me, as a young athlete, I would have loved to have had access to content about professional women playing sports that was relatable to me so that I could draw inspiration from it in some way." Agreed! How great would that have been. How life changing!

In this Episode she explains the mission, purpose and big goals of Major League Girls. We also talk Olympic coverage, training, being strong, transitioning to her journalism career, Philadelphia, and tortilla chips.
